Why I Will be Running this October

Whew!  It has been a whirlwind last few weeks, and I can not believe that September is almost over! It just started!

Last month, I shared with you my plans to join people around the world to collectively and virtually run around the world raising funds and awareness to empower girls globally as part of the If Girls Ran the World event this October.

  If Girls Ran the World

Well, October and this event are both almost here, so here’s a quick recap of how I’ll be participating!

If you haven’t read my previous post, The If Girls Ran the World event is a chance to use running to support a fabulous cause.  Participants will log every mile ran, from Oct 1-31st in an effort to collectively run the circumference of the earth, or 24,901 miles.

If Girls Ran the World

My mileage goal for October is 100 miles.  I will be training for the Annapolis Running Classic half marathon, so that should be a very doable goal!

From now until the event is over, I will also be raising money for The Hunger Project!

From The Hunger Project website:

Studies show that when women are supported and empowered, all of society benefits. Their families are healthier, more children go to school, agricultural productivity improves and incomes increase. In short, communities become more resilient.

The Hunger Project firmly believes that empowering women to be key change agents is an essential element to achieving the end of hunger and poverty. Wherever we work, our programs aim to support women and build their capacity.

I am so honored to be raising money for such an important cause!

How can you help?

From October 1 – 31, get out and run. Run daily to win cool prizes and unlock fun rewards. Share your runs on social media (#ifgirlsrantheworld) and inspire others to join the movement.

In addition to, (or instead of) running, I would be honored if you would choose to donate, to help me meet my goal of $250 raised for The Hunger Project!  Any amount would be so appreciated and helpful in the effort to support women and girls around the world!

Will you join me in running in October for If Girls Ran the World?
