Weekly Recap 6/22-6/28

Here it is, one month into Summer break.  My busy spring race season is over, and I have a couple of weeks before marathon training starts up again!  Before I’m officially in training, I’d like to get into the habit of once again writing up my weekly recaps.

So here it goes…

I started out the week pretty exhausted… having just returned home from our 2nd week at the beach.  So, Monday was a rest day.  (Well, as much of a rest day as it can be when I have to do laundry, unpack everything, and go to the grocery store to restock our kitchen)!

I certainly can’t complain though!  We had a wonderful time, and I LOVE the Outer Banks!

Tuesday morning I ran 3.5 miles on the treadmill.  Other than a couple of interruptions every few minutes by my rugrats, it was a pretty good run!  I did some intervals and my overall pace was 8’50”

The kids were at VBS in the evenings this week, so when my husband got home, we went for a run.  (Because that is just what we do when we have time alone).  😉  We got about 1.8 miles out before the storm hit, and we turned around and headed back.  Usually I love running in the rain, but lightening makes me a little nervous…  Mileage: 3.7 and average pace was 9’38”

On the plus side, I had a fabulous rainy day ‘do!

Wednesday also started out on the treadmill.  I ran 3.01 miles, but I was feeling a little slow for a treadmill run so I upped the incline to make it a little more worthwhile.  Average pace: 9’38”  Ran again with my husband in the evening and got another 4.25 miles in.  Pace: 9’55”

Thursday was the last day that the kids were gone for the evening, so instead of going for a run, we vegged out on the couch and watched “Orange is the New Black.”

Friday was another zero mile day.

Saturday was a rainy, dreary day.  I had a run scheduled early with my MRTT group, but I woke up to a downpour and a flood watch, so I canceled.  In the afternoon, there was a break in the rain, and I took advantage of it and got a few miles in what was otherwise a lazy Saturday.

This picture pretty much sums up my Saturday

Sunday was a long run day.  I was doing pretty good until about 8 miles in, when I was just starting to feel worn and tired.  Then we ran into a friend that joined us for the remainder of the run and that was just what I needed!  The last few miles really picked up and felt much better!  Long run miles: 12.

Sunday evening, no matter how much I may have tried to talk them out of it, my daughters decided they wanted to cut their hair.  Well, it is summer and it’s only hair, so I went along with it.  My oldest even had enough to donate!

Happy girls, (and still pretty cute)!  😉

Overall, a pretty good week!  Ran 31.5 miles, which brought my June total to 95 with a few more days left in the month!

Do you have any vacation plans coming up?  Have you ever donated your hair?

I’m linking up today with Erika from MCM Mama, April from Run The Great Wide Somewhere, and Patty from My No-Guilt life for Tuesdays on the run!

  1. Lisa Davis says:

Great job, girl! How is the MRTT thing going? Have you added more members?

    • Thanks! It’s going well, and growing steadily! Now I’m working on trying to get a little more participation… 😉 In fact, I was bummed to cancel last week’s group run because quite a few ladies were planning to come!

  2. Wow that’s a great week of running considering you’re not training for your race yet! Nice job!

I don’t have Netflix, so I’ve never seen OITNB…seems like everyone loves it!

    • Karen G says:

We actually have’t had cable in like 8 years, so when we got Netflix a couple of years ago, it was like a whole new world was opened!
(And yep, OITNB is a pretty great show). 😉

  3. Your daughter’s hair looks cute! I actually like mine a bit longer in the summer so I can braid it.

That’s awesome that you & your husband run together. I’m happy when I can get mine to come on a dog walk with me, which doesn’t happen real often. The dogs are better behaved with me doing the majority of the walking.

No vacation plans. 🙁 I have to keep reminding myself we escaped one of the worst weeks this winter for 10 days on the west coast. On my birthday, no less!

    • Karen G says:

Now, actually I would LOVE to visit the West Coast! I’ve never spent any time out that way! Hopefully I can make a “runcation” out of it one of these days! 😉

  4. Great runs! I always feel as if I am running slower on the treadmill then I do outside!

Beautiful vacation pics. I go on vacay at the end of July!

    • Karen G says:

I sometimes feel faster on the treadmill, but I think that’s just because I can control the speed… however, time definitely seems slower on the treadmill! 😉
Hope you have a great vacation!!

  5. Your daughters are adorable! I donated 10 inches of hair last spring and it felt so weird to go from super long hair to quite short in a matter of minutes.

  6. April @ RunTheGreatWideSomewhere says:

I love those weeks at the beach, but you’re right unpacking and getting settled back in at home afterwards is pretty exhausting! Great runs and thanks for linking up with us today!

  7. We’ve been on vacation in New Hampshire with my family. I have never been to OBX, but am dying to go!!
