Weekly Marathon Training Recap 8/24 – 8/30

Last week went pretty well.  Although, I really didn’t get many miles in…

I knew I was lucky to have my free time when the kids were in school, but I don’t think I fully realized just how lucky I was.  😉  Marathon training was much easier when I was unemployed! Now that I’m working, I only have early mornings and evenings to run  By evening, I’m just exhausted… So, It looks like going to have to become a morning person!

It’s going to take me a while to get used to my new schedule, but for better or worse, this is how my week went…

Monday: Zero miles.  This was a planned rest day, after a 23 mile weekend.

Monday was also the start of the prAna week long #7DayStretch Instagram Challenge. We stretched, bended our bodies, minds, and souls and came together to show how we truly #liveinprana!

Tuesday and Wednesday:  Zero miles.  These were unplanned rest days.  😉  The plan was to jump on the treadmill when I got home from work, but too quickly it was time to get my girls from the bus stop and then make dinner.  So, that plan isn’t going to work.

Thursday: 4 miles.  Still trying to run in that small window of time in the afternoon.  Fortunately, being pressed for time made my pace pretty quick at 8:33/mile.

Friday: Another zero miles..  :/

Saturday:  Pretty solid 13.1 miles around town.  We went with a friend, which was a nice change of pace.  Followed by a day with the kids at the pool, because I know these summer days are not going to be around much longer!

Sunday: Up early again to meet with my MRTT group for a 5 mile run.  I started this group just this past spring, and it was really slow to get going…  But things are really starting to pick up now, and people are even showing up for the group runs!  Which is much better than being stood up, like I was for the first few group runs.  😉

After I got home, my husband and I took the kids to the track to let them run a bit.  My 8 year old ran 2 miles, my 6 year old ran 1, and my 4 year old ran 1/2 a mile.  I LOVE this little Sunday tradition!  After running 1 mile with my middle child, (about 11:00/mile).  I ran one more mile at a faster pace, (8:05/mile) to stretch my legs out.

Total miles for the week: 23

But it brought my August mileage to 153, which I’m OK with!  🙂

  1. My training week went great…but I don’t have kids. You’re doing great with both work and kids. Never participated in an Instagram challenge.

  2. I know what you mean being exhausted come evening and then not running. I’m having a really hard time figuring out the best times to run or when/if/how to force a run after a really long day. My marathon training is definitely suffering with the work/kids/grad school combo. Mornings do seem better in theory… but my littlest one was up at 4am sick this morning so there went that plan. There’s always something, right?
