Week 12 of Richmond Marathon Training

Another week down!  Less than 4 weeks before I run my next marathon!

This week’s training wasn’t terribly noteworthy.  Coming off of a less than stellar 20 mile run;

Monday – Rest day

Tuesday – 4.15 miles on the treadmill.  I was pretty glad to have a shorter run scheduled, it gave me an extra day for my tired legs.


Wednesday – This was my mid week long run.  I was going to run it around town while my youngest was at preschool, but the rain changed my plans.  Now, normally I love to run in a little rain!  (I usually feel like a bit of a bad *ss when I do).  😉  But, 10 miles in a torrential downpour is a little different, so off to the gym I went…   Got my 10 in, but I didn’t enjoy it.

Thursday – Another treadmill day.  7.5 miles.  Tuesdays and Thursdays are always at the gym because I have my youngest home with me, and the gym has childcare.

There is a running hierarchy that I adhere to…

Running outside is always the best option, next is the treadmill.  Because the only thing worse than the treadmill is running with the jogging stroller!  I give props to anyone who gets their miles in that way!  I avoid running with my jogger at all costs!

Friday – 5 miles

Saturday 5 miles

Its funny, those two days I ran the same route but they were completely different runs!  Friday, felt great!  my splits were negative, and my pace was 8’48”   Saturday, I just wasn’t feeling it, and the same route was 9’36” almost a minute slower!


Not every run is awesome, but I’m always glad to be out there!

Sunday – 13.5 miles.  A good solid run!  It was nice to dial it back a bit, after two 20 mile weekends.   Sunday was My first taste of winter running this year!

Low 40’s and lots of wind had me out in my long pants and long sleeves for the first time.  I hope the warm weather isn’t gone for good, I am so not ready for the cold to be here to stay yet!

Overall, it was a good week of training!  I’m currently at 134 miles for October, and my goal is to get over 200 miles this month, for my first time ever!  I’m usually super excited to hit 100, so the idea of doubling that is amazing to me!

  1. Bless your heart for having the mental fortitude to pound out those treadmill runs. I just can’t make myself do anything over 5 on the TM without looking for a serious exit strategy. Your mileage this month is impressive! Keep it up 🙂

      You know, last winter when I was training for a spring marathon, the ice and snow made me run one of my long runs on the “dreadmill.” That was 17 miles, so I figure after that, nothing else is quite as bad… (Not that I would ever want to do that again). 😉

  2. It sounds like things are going amazingly with your training! I don’t blame you one bit for picking the treadmill over a torrential downpour. I did that myself a couple weeks ago. Good luck with the rest of it! I have a good feeling about this one for you!

    • Aww, Thank you!! I’m really feeling pretty good about this one too! Learning from all the mistakes I made with my first… (I figure after about 5 I’ll have it all figured out). 😉

  3. Haha, we MAY be the same person. Same situation for me…little guy is home on T/Th with me so I HAVE to hit the treadmill because there is no way in heck I am running with the jogging stroller. There aren’t many things that I hate more! Your training is going great! Only a few more weeks!

      And a few more weeks still feels like forever! I’m starting to get a bit anxious! Can’t wait to hear how yours goes this weekend!!
