Weekly Recap 7/20 – 7/26

Week 3 of training for the Marine Corps Marathon and Richmond Marathon! This was one of those rare weeks that I actually got all of my training miles in! Monday – 5.1 miles.  It was a pretty unremarkable run.  Although, I did get to leave the treadmill and run outside, which is a win for sure!  Average pace: 9’37″/mile. Tuesday – Back on the treadmill for 7 miles.  Now, usually running inside is a great way to beat the heat {Read More}

Marathon Training, My One Year Blogiversary, and a Giveaway!

Oh my goodness, I almost missed it! The original look of Karen Goes Running! I can’t quite believe that it has been a full year since I hit “Publish” on my first post!  I wasn’t sure where this blog would take me, and honestly I’m still not sure.  😉  But, I am pretty happy with my little corner of the internet! When I started this blog, I was beginning to train for the Richmond Marathon.  Now, one year later, I {Read More}

Weekly Recap 6/22-6/28

Here it is, one month into Summer break.  My busy spring race season is over, and I have a couple of weeks before marathon training starts up again!  Before I’m officially in training, I’d like to get into the habit of once again writing up my weekly recaps. So here it goes… I started out the week pretty exhausted… having just returned home from our 2nd week at the beach.  So, Monday was a rest day.  (Well, as much of {Read More}

Marathon Training 2/16 – 2/22

How’s the weather where you are?!  Here, it’s been another snowy, COLD week for marathon training.  Not once did I get to run outside…  and I have made peace with that.  (Sort of).  In fact, I have no desire to run outside until the temps reach 50!  (Well, almost…)  😉 Hobbes and I are totally on the same page. Here’s how my week went: Monday: Planned rest day Tuesday and Wednesday:  Snow days, and kids home from school = unplanned {Read More}

Marathon Training: 2/9 – 2/15

It seems I’ve misplaced my motivation, and can’t quite seem to find it…   So if anyone has any extra lying around, please send some my way! Or maybe I just need a little reminder…  😉 I did however, sign up for my first race of the season this week!  In just 2 1/2 weeks, I’ll be running another half marathon.  I’m pretty sure racing again will help me get my running mojo back!  There’s nothing quite like race day {Read More}

Why I’m Breaking Up With My Gym

First off, It’s not them, it’s me… 😉 I love the gym I’ve been a part of. I joined when my youngest was less than a year.  Mainly for the childcare.  This was at the beginning of my running journey, and I would never have gotten any miles in otherwise.  For almost three years now, I’ve had the gym treadmill to turn to when the weather was bad, or when my kids were home and I couldn’t go out to {Read More}

Marathon Training 1/19 – 1/26

    Blue Ridge Marathon Training – Week 4 4 Weeks into my “official” training for my next marathon, and I haven’t done a weekly recap yet.  So, I figured it was about time!   Besides, I think I need that extra “push” in the coming weeks, because I have been going easy on myself up until now.  With snow days, and having things come up, I’ve skipped a few runs, and my weekly mileage is way below where it {Read More}

Week 15 of Richmond Marathon Training

or “Why I Don’t Run in the Dark!” I’ve finished my last week of training before the Richmond Marathon Race week! Wednesday: I didn’t think I would get my run in, so when the opportunity came to run in the evening, against my better judgement I put on some blaze orange, and went out with my husband for a 3.5 mile run.  (Seriously, I am such a scaredy cat.  If he wasn’t with me, I wouldn’t have even thought of going {Read More}

Week 14 of Richmond Marathon Training and a New 5K PR

This was my first week of tapering before the Richmond Marathon,  and so far, so good.  I’v actually enjoyed the slight break from a crazy number of miles.  (I’m sure by the end of next week, I’ll be a little insane)  😉 Monday – A rest day, after my 22 mile run on Sunday Tuesday – 10 miles on the treadmill, would end up being my longest run this week. When there’s nothing exciting to take a picture of, I {Read More}

5 Essentials for a Long Run

Running is supposed to be simple; lace your shoes, and get out there.   And for the most part, this holds true. However, with my longer runs, I find myself constantly trying to figure out what I need to carry with me.  I know, I’m probably way over thinking things, but I have put a lot of thought and “trial and error” into what I carry with me.  I think I’ve finally figured it out. So maybe I can save you {Read More}
