Why I’m Excited To #RunRichmond Once Again!

Summer is heating up, which means it’s the perfect time to start planning your fall races! Last year, about this time, I was feeling a little worn out and decided not to run a fall marathon.  I felt like I needed a break.  However, that break lasted a lot longer than I planned… and while I did run a spring marathon and a couple of halves, my training has been extremely unfocused.  And those races were pretty mediocre. When I {Read More}

Training Recap and Race Updates

It’s been a while since I’ve done a Training Recap, so I’m pretty excited to get back into it! So, what am I training for?  That is an excellent question…  because, I’m not really sure. This next week should officially start my Richmond Marathon training.  It would be my third year in a row running it, and it is one of my all time favorite races.  BUT, I haven’t signed up yet, and honestly, I’m not sure I will.  Since {Read More}

Weekly Marathon Training Recap 9/7 – 9/13

What a week!   I’m a few days late with  my recap, but better late than never, right?! We’ll just jump right in… Monday – Labor Day. We pushed our long run, (usually on Saturday) to Monday because of the holiday.  So the week started with 16 miles.  Not a bad run, but we (my husband and I), got a pretty late start so it was midday and super hot by the time we finished, and our pace was slower {Read More}

Weekly Marathon Training Recap 8/24 – 8/30

Last week went pretty well.  Although, I really didn’t get many miles in… I knew I was lucky to have my free time when the kids were in school, but I don’t think I fully realized just how lucky I was.  😉  Marathon training was much easier when I was unemployed! Now that I’m working, I only have early mornings and evenings to run  By evening, I’m just exhausted… So, It looks like going to have to become a morning person! {Read More}

Weekly Recap 7/20 – 7/26

Week 3 of training for the Marine Corps Marathon and Richmond Marathon! This was one of those rare weeks that I actually got all of my training miles in! Monday – 5.1 miles.  It was a pretty unremarkable run.  Although, I did get to leave the treadmill and run outside, which is a win for sure!  Average pace: 9’37″/mile. Tuesday – Back on the treadmill for 7 miles.  Now, usually running inside is a great way to beat the heat {Read More}

Marathon Training, My One Year Blogiversary, and a Giveaway!

Oh my goodness, I almost missed it! The original look of Karen Goes Running! I can’t quite believe that it has been a full year since I hit “Publish” on my first post!  I wasn’t sure where this blog would take me, and honestly I’m still not sure.  😉  But, I am pretty happy with my little corner of the internet! When I started this blog, I was beginning to train for the Richmond Marathon.  Now, one year later, I {Read More}

2014 My Year in Review

And just like that, another year is gone… But what a great year it was!! So much has happened since January 1st 2014.  Like 2 marathons, a new blog and 1200 miles! In January, I started training for my first marathon!  I thought it was a crazy idea, and didn’t really have a lot of confidence that I would be able to finish! In the spring, I ran a few local races. I got a PR at the Monument Ave {Read More}

2014 Richmond Marathon Recap

  Well here it is, a few days after my marathon and I’m finally getting around to writing my recap. What a fantastic weekend! It began on Friday afternoon when we hopped in the car and headed to Richmond.  We had kind of a late start, and arrived at the expo just before they started closing up.  We took a quick tour of the booths, grabbed our packets and t shirts with out any problems, and headed back to my Sister-In-Law, {Read More}

Week 15 of Richmond Marathon Training

or “Why I Don’t Run in the Dark!” I’ve finished my last week of training before the Richmond Marathon Race week! Wednesday: I didn’t think I would get my run in, so when the opportunity came to run in the evening, against my better judgement I put on some blaze orange, and went out with my husband for a 3.5 mile run.  (Seriously, I am such a scaredy cat.  If he wasn’t with me, I wouldn’t have even thought of going {Read More}

Week 14 of Richmond Marathon Training and a New 5K PR

This was my first week of tapering before the Richmond Marathon,  and so far, so good.  I’v actually enjoyed the slight break from a crazy number of miles.  (I’m sure by the end of next week, I’ll be a little insane)  😉 Monday – A rest day, after my 22 mile run on Sunday Tuesday – 10 miles on the treadmill, would end up being my longest run this week. When there’s nothing exciting to take a picture of, I {Read More}
