Marathon Training: 2/9 – 2/15

It seems I’ve misplaced my motivation, and can’t quite seem to find it…  

So if anyone has any extra lying around, please send some my way!


Or maybe I just need a little reminder…  😉

I did however, sign up for my first race of the season this week!  In just 2 1/2 weeks, I’ll be running another half marathon.  I’m pretty sure racing again will help me get my running mojo back!  There’s nothing quite like race day excitement.  Added to that, I haven’t actually ran a half marathon in over a year.  I was supposed to run one at the end of last year, but got sick and had my first DNS…  boo!  I didn’t really write about it because I was super bummed, and it took me a while to get over.

So anyway, I have some big goals for this one!

Here’s how my week went…

Monday:  Rest day!  No running, but it was still a pretty great day! I got my hair done, which was way overdue…

Cut off a lot of the length, and brightened it up!  Now at least my hair is ready for spring!

I also received a couple pretty sweet packages in the mail…


A box of goodies from Nuun and my racing shirt!  Can’t wait to rep such a great company at my next race!

Tuesday:  5 miles on the treadmill


The only problem I’m having with running at home vs. the gym is the fact that the gym had childcare…  I find myself trying to wait until nap time to get in my run, and since my preschooler doesn’t always nap anymore, I end up running later than I like, and giving him a little extra “screen time” with a tablet or TV.  Feeling a little Mommy Guilt for that one.  😉

Wednesday and Thursday:  0 miles.   And being a week later that I’m writing this, I can’t for the life of me remember why I didn’t run.  Although, I’m sure at the time it seemed like a good excuse.  :/

Friday: 8 miles.  This was a tough run, (and, I didn’t even take a treadmill selfie…)  I had to stop a few times during the first 4 miles to stretch my legs and work out some kinks…  But the 2nd half went much better and I finished pretty strong.  Pace: 9’41”

Saturday: Valentine’s Day!

Usually Sunday is my day for a long run, but Sunday’s weather was supposed to be ridiculously cold and windy!  So my husband and I opted to run Saturday.  Plus, being Valentine’s Day, what better way to spend it than on a 3 hour run..?  😉

Don’t get me wrong, Saturday was still cold and windy, but slightly less cold and windy than Sunday.  😉

We ran 18.2 miles, and despite the fact that I haven’t been reaching my goal mileage during the week, I still felt pretty good!  We took a pretty scenic route all over town, and ran a loop around each of the local school tracks.  I even ran a few areas that I hadn’t been before.  (I didn’t think there were any of those left)!

Sunday: rest day

Now, if we can just get through this current cold snap, because this winter is kicking my butt and I keep telling myself that Spring is just around the corner!

    Hooray for the first race of your season! That’s so soon! You’ll do great and it will probably do a lot to recapture your motivation.

  2. Ohmygosh, you get to run with your hubby? That’s so awesome. Lack of childcare aside, my husband and I are such different paces that we could probably never actually run together. Congrats on signing up for the half! You’ll rock it!

    • We are very lucky, my in-laws live a few blocks over, and like to have the kids for brunch each weekend! So, nice to have a running date each week! And yep, we’re still running at about the same pace, although, I’m sure one of these days he’ll pass me up! 😉

  4. Its so hard to stay motivated in the winter, especially when its super cold and snowy. I consider any day that I get a workout in a success when its so bitterly cold.

  5. FWIW I rarely met the weekly mileage goals in the marathon training plan I used and still managed to PR my last marathon. I wasn’t really under – on average 2 to 3 miles but don’t fret too much about that. Just try not to miss a long run!
