Friday Five: Races to Run in 2015

Well here it is, another Friday.  Another week gone…  This one went pretty fast despite having the kids home from school way more than I’m used to!  😉  Today I’ve decided to once again link up with Mar on the RunEat Pray Run DC, and You Signed Up for What?! for the Friday Five!  This week’s theme is Five Races to Run in 2015!

I mentioned yesterday that my racing season starts in just a few weeks, and I’m really looking forward to the races I have planned.  Plus, I’m still looking into summer and fall races to run this year…  Since racing is on my mind, this theme is right up my alley!

1.  VeteRun Half Marathon

races1

My first race of the season!  It’s a smaller local race, and it’s the first year that they have a half marathon distance, (last year it was a 5k and 10k).  It is at Summit Point Motorsports, on the race track, which could be a lot of fun.  (Plus, there’s nothing like being able to sleep in your own bed, the night before a race)!

2.  Blue Ridge Marathon

races2

The race I’m currently focusing my training on!  Have you heard of this one?  It was totally my husbands idea, and it makes me a little nervous…  The elevation for this looks crazy!

races6

America’s Toughest Road Marathon?  What have I gotten myself into?  Because 26.2 isn’t hard enough already?!  😉  This will be my “I don’t care about my time, I just want to finish,” race!

Which leads me to…

3.  Run for Your Mom Marathon

races3

Now this race I’m not 100% on…  There is not a lot of information on their website, but I am hoping to run another marathon a few weeks after Blue Ridge, because I would really like to run one with the hopes of a PR, and I know that is not going to happen at Blue Ridge!  😉  This is another smallish race, and I’m not sure how excited I am at the prospect of possibly being the only one on the road for much of it…  But, it’s in my old college town, which I would love to visit!  Plus, it’s on Mother’s Day weekend! (And if I could have anything for Mother’s Day, it would be 4-ish hours all to myself, right?!)  😉

4.  Marine Corps Marathon

races4

I have never ran the Marine Corps Marathon, but I’m hoping this will be my big fall race!  They use a lottery system for entries, so I’ll just have to wait and see….  But, ‘finger’s crossed!’  (I’m still super bummed I didn’t get into the lottery for Cherry Blossom, so I’m trying not to get too excited about this one).  😉

5. Great Smoky Mountains Half Marathon

races5

Have you been to the Smoky Mountains?  I LOVE this area, the scenery is just beautiful, and I would totally love to run here!  In fact, the start of this race is literally across the street from my parents home, and right next to the high school I attended (way back when…)  😉   I couldn’t run last year, because we had a lot going on at the time, but I’m really hoping to run it in September!

What race are you most looking forward to in 2015?

  1. Looks like you have some great races planned for the year! I would really like to do MCM one year. It’s tough that its all dependent on the lottery system though!

    • Yeah, the lottery is hard, not knowing you’ll get in, but I see how it’s kind of a necessary evil… It would be easier to plan my fall races though if knew for sure what I’d be running! 😉

  2. Wow you’ve got some great ones here! I’ve heard awesome things about Blue Ridge! fingers crossed for MCM for you! I’m looking forward to the Paris Marathon!!

  3. So what you’re telling me is that you like hills. 😉 These races all sound awesome! The MCM is on my bucket list. One day I will make it in there! Right now my main focus is Jersey. After that it’s just going to be a lot more running for fun!

  4. Good luck with the Blue Ridge Marathon! So many hills! Your races look fun and challenging though. 🙂 I’m really looking forward to doing all the new races this year. I feel like once I get the local races completed, I’ll be able to venture out on some racecations next year.

    • Have fun with all your local races! Racecations are hard, because there are SOO many great races to choose from! I wish I could run them all!

  5. Wow I haven’t heard of any of those except for MCM. I hope you get in!

    • I do have a lot of smaller races this spring, which is different for me, but with only a few runners, maybe there’s a chance I can place in my AG. 😉
I’m thinking there will be some bigger races in the Fall, that’s my favorite season to train for!

  6. I love the Smoky Mountains and have visited quite often over the years. I always assumed this half would be incredibly hilly. Is it?

    • I don’t think this course is too bad. It stops just before the start of the National Park. What I’ve ran in the area has been more “rolling hills.” (Although, to be fair, I haven’t actually looked at the elevation map). 😉

  7. I would love to do the Marine Corps Marathon one day, I hear it’s an amazing experience. The Mother’s Day run sounds fun!
